School Priorities
Every year, schools prioritise one to three specific areas to focus on over the course of a year. In 2025, our 3 priorities are:
- Staff and Student Wellbeing
- English – Structured Literacy
- Mathematics
These priorities build upon our work over the past two years and align with Department of Education priorities. We believe that as we continue to focus on these priority areas, we will continue to see positive gains in learning and wellbeing outcomes for students.
All the best!

Starting Prep in 2026?
Kindergarten is a part-time educational program for children in the year before Prep. Kindy is 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year and is free for Queensland children attending a government-approved kindergarten program.
In Kindy, children have great opportunities to make friends, explore new environments, build confidence and have fun learning. Kindy offers meaningful experiences and interactions that support your child's early learning, wellbeing and development and give them a great start to school.
You can find more information about free Kindy programs here.

If your child is starting Prep in 2026, enrolment packs are now available from the office with 2026 Prep interviews and transition days to begin later in the year.

FROM THE DEPUTY

As Term 1 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible efforts of our students. Throughout the term, our students have worked diligently in their classrooms, strengthening their learning and building positive relationships with their teachers and peers. Their dedication and enthusiasm have set a strong foundation for the year ahead.
A special congratulations to our 2025 student leaders, who have shown remarkable commitment to making Browns Plains State School a 'better place to be.' Their dedication to creating positive change has been evident in the many initiatives they have led throughout the term.
One of the standout achievements this term has been the success of our Student Council initiatives and fundraising events. These events would not have been possible without the hard work of our students, staff, and the unwavering support from parents and the wider community.
We extend our gratitude to MP Jim Chalmers, Cr Tim Frazer, and Our Patch, who generously donated Easter eggs for the Student Council Easter Raffle. Thanks to their contributions and the support of our school community, we raised over $1000! Additionally, our Sausage Sizzle lunch brought in over $500, as did our Free Dress Day on Monday, 31 March—an incredible effort by all involved.
To our wonderful staff, families, and community members—thank you for your continued support. Your contributions help create an environment where our students can thrive, and I look forward to another exciting and productive term ahead!
Wishing all our families a safe and enjoyable break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2!

FROM STUDENT WELLBEING
Positive Behaviour for Learning
I react appropriately when accidents or mishaps happen.
This fortnight, students have been focusing on how to react appropriately when they are faced with a problem. Students have been presented with different scenarios and have participated in discussions about where the problem would sit on the catastrophe scale. Students discussed appropriate strategies that they could use when reacting to problems. Below is the catastrophe scale, a tool that can also be used at home when discussing problems or challenging situations with your child.
Examples of scenarios discussed in class

Reboot- The Three Brains
This term in Reboot, students have been learning about the three brains, Wild Brain, Emotional Brain and Smart Brain. The first structures of the brain to develop are those that form its foundation. The brain grows from the base to the top from the inside to the outer regions. Located at the top of the spinal cord is the brain stem, cerebellum and diencephalon. Reboot terms these collective structures our Wild Brain: not wild crazy, but instinctual and primal moving through the world ever scanning and keeping us alive. Wild Brain structures regulate all of the basic autonomic processes that keep us safe and well. In any given second, including sleep, the brain stem is receiving uncountable input from our external and internal environments and then regulating a vast number of physiological responses to keep us alive.
As the survival centre of the brain, Wild Brain’s ultimate priority is safety. Not the safety that we know our kids have, but their FELT safety. FELT safety happens when the wild brain has its basic needs met and can truly relax. When there is loving trusted care, healthy food and water, safe shelter, lots of warm and welcomed touch, lots of movement and nature time, predictability and routine to everyday life, the wild brain feels safe.
To find out what your child has learnt so far, you may like to ask:
- What are you learning about in Reboot?
- How are you doing?
- Where can you go for help?
