FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Last week I wrote to inform parents and carers that I had been offered, and accepted, a 6-month secondment to the Principal School Review team in Central Office. The position commences next semester and may be extended. The role will require me to visit schools across the state to complete school reviews. Whilst I am excited about this opportunity, I am also sad to be stepping away from our great school. However, I know that our school is in great hands, is on a positive trajectory and this will continue in my absence. An expression of interest process is currently taking place to identify my replacement. I will inform everyone as soon as this process is finalised.
3-6 Playground
Work on our new Year 3-6 playground should commence in the holidays. The initial work will be the earthworks and retaining. The playground will be on the upper grassed area, between the Year 5 Building and the Hall. It is hoped that the work will be finalised a couple of weeks into Term 3.
Painting over the holidays
Our classrooms will be getting a makeover during the school holidays. Classrooms will be painted internally and externally to brighten them up in advance of Term 3.
Health Practitioner
Our school has been selected as one of twenty primary schools across the state to have a Health Practitioner placed in them. The Health Practitioner will visit our school for a day a week, commencing in Term 3. Parents will be able to make appointments for their child/ren to see the Nurse Practitioner. Parents will need to accompany their child to the appointment. As part of this, some work will be occurring to the internal space of one end of the Treehouse to set up it up as a medical space.
Colour Fun Run
The Browns Plains State School Colour Fun Run has been booked in for Friday, September 12, 2025. Around this time, a number of local schools hold their fun runs and as a result, purchasing a plain white shirt often becomes challenging. Be ready in advance and buy a white shirt now!
School Priorities
This year, our 3 priorities are:
1. Staff and Student Wellbeing
2. English – Structured Literacy
3. Mathematics
All the best!

We look forward to seeing you there.

Learning in Action Across the Classrooms
This fortnight, our classrooms have been buzzing with purposeful learning and engaging opportunities for students to showcase their growing knowledge and skills.
One beautiful example came from 5B, who were excited to receive a surprise letter from Miss Loughran, their Term 1 teacher. Student’s in 5B had written a personal letter to Miss Loughran, communicating their learning journey so far this term and asking thoughtful questions. In return, Miss Loughran wrote a letter to the class, which brought smiles to many faces. A big thank you to Mrs Sodenkamp for strategically designing this authentic writing task to extend students’ understanding of compound and complex sentences, paragraphing, and creative writing—all within a meaningful, real-world context.

As part of my regular classroom visits, it was a pleasure to see students deeply engaged in both their learning and assessment tasks over the past two weeks. A particular highlight was my visit to 4B, where students were participating in their Number Daily Review. The focus was on multiplication strategies, including doubling, double-doubles, and multiplying by 5s. What stood out most was not just the accuracy of their answers, but the confidence with which students were able to explain the most efficient strategy they used to reach their solution. Keep up the great work, 4B!

Deputy Principal
FROM THE HEAD OF DEPT - STUDENT SERVICES

Congratulations to the classes listed below for their attendance over the last fortnight.

Absences
Please ensure your children are at school every day if they are well. If your child is absent from school, provide a reason for their absence using one of the methods listed below.
- Phone: 07 3809 6222
- Reply to the text message sent by the school on the day of your child’s absence
- Return the Unexplained Absence letter with a reason and signature
Unexplained Absence letters are generated and distributed to students each fortnight. These letters provide dates of your child’s absences which have not already been explained. If you receive one, please fill in the reason/s for your child's absence/s, sign and have your child return it to their class teacher. Please work with us to reduce the number of unexplained absences in 2025!

Chaplaincy Week
Chaplaincy Week was in Week 6 and is an annual celebration of school chaplains and the role they play in supporting the school community. This term we welcomed Chappy Lachlan to our team. He works Monday - Wednesday and is based in the Wellbeing Hub. Chappy Lachlan spends most of his time supporting in the classroom, checking in, engaging in games at break times and having one-on-one sessions with students who have consent. Chappy has helped run our second-hand uniform stall this term and helps to run Breakfast Club each morning. We're very grateful to have him here at Browns Plains State School.
