FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Thank You to Our School Community
I would like to thank the entire school community for the warm and generous welcome I have received over the past two weeks. This is a beautiful school with dedicated and passionate staff and a strong sense of community.
I feel privileged to be part of a school that places such a strong focus on staff and student success and wellbeing. I look forward to continuing the important work of supporting positive learning and improving outcomes for all students.
Thank you once again for making me feel so welcome.
School Review — an opportunity to have your say
Our school is scheduled for a review from 5th to 7th August this term.
The Department of Education regularly reviews the teaching and learning practices of Queensland state schools. The reviews are conducted by the department’s School and Region Reviews team.
The reviews do not rate or compare schools, but provide us with independent feedback so we can continue to improve learning outcomes for students.
All schools have a review at least once every 4 years. Key findings from the review will be made available to parents and the community on our school website.
The review team would like to hear from the school community and I encourage anyone who is interested to have their say. Your feedback is important and will help us continue to deliver a great education for students.
Feedback can be provided to the review team by phone or in person. All feedback remains confidential.
Please contact the school office if you are interested in speaking to a reviewer. Alternatively, you can register your interest by emailing reviews@qed.qld.gov.au.
More information about the review process is available from the department’s website at
schoolreviews.education.qld.gov.au.
Nurse Practitioner
We are excited to announce that from Friday 25 July 2025, students at Browns Plains State School will have access to a free Health Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner) clinic on school grounds.
This clinic will be staffed by a Nurse Practitioner, Mrs Sruthy Raju, offering a range of healthcare services similar to those provided in a community-based medical clinic.
The clinic will operate every Friday during school terms, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Appointments must be attended with a parent or carer. To book an appointment, please contact the school office on 3809 6222.
We are proud to offer this new service to support the health and wellbeing of our students. If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 3809 6222. For more detailed information please refer to the email sent on Monday 21st July.
P&C Update
A big thank you to Veronica, our P&C President, and everyone who attended the meeting on Tuesday morning. It was lovely to see so many people at this week’s meeting. Thank you for your warm welcome and the laughs!
The P&C is excited to be hosting a school disco on 1st August during the school day. Students are asked to bring along a gold coin donation for this event. This day will be a free dress day for students.
The next P&C meeting will be held on Monday 19th August at 9:15am. We look forward to seeing you there!
School Opinion Survey
This year’s School Opinion Survey runs from 28 July to 22 August. Parents, carers, students in selected year levels, and staff have been emailed a link to participate. Your feedback will help us understand our school’s strengths and areas for improvement. Survey responses are confidential. Find out more on the School Opinion Survey webpage or contact school administration.

FROM THE DEPUTY

On Thursday, our students celebrated their first hundred days of learning for 2025.
Classes in Prep to Year 2 celebrated this milestone with many activities looking at concepts of the number 100 in lots of different ways and reflecting on all the learning that has happened so far this year. There were even many staff and students who turned 100 years old overnight!!
Well done to all our little learners for all their hard work and learning. Imagine what we will know by the end of the year!

Enrol for Prep 2026
Enrolment have begun for Prep students for 2026. Do you have a child born between July 1st, 2020 and June 30th, 2021? Enrolment packs are now available from the office. GET SET FOR PREP transition days will be held in Term 4. This is an important opportunity to support a comfortable and confident start to Prep. Book a time for your enrolment interview as places will fill quickly.

Jellybean Playgroup
Come and join us Wednesdays – 9:15-10:45 am in the hall room. At playgroup, your child can:
• enjoy early learning activities
• develop friendships and social skills
• build school readiness
. . . as well as a great opportunity to meet and share with other parents

Kindergarten is a part-time educational program for children in the year before Prep. Kindy is 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year and is free for Queensland children attending a government-approved kindergarten program.
In Kindy, children have great opportunities to make friends, explore new environments, build confidence and have fun learning. Kindy offers meaningful experiences and interactions that support your child's early learning, wellbeing and development and give them a great start to school.
You can find more information about free Kindy programs here.

Welcome Back to Term 3!
We’re excited to welcome all students and families back to school for what promises to be another productive and engaging term. We hope the break provided time to rest and recharge, and that everyone is feeling ready to take on the new challenges and opportunities ahead.
School Uniform
As we settle into the colder months, we’ve noticed a growing number of students wearing non-uniform jumpers. While we understand the need to keep warm, we kindly remind families of the importance of wearing the correct school uniform. Our uniform is a symbol of pride, belonging, and respect for our school community.
To support families, school jumpers are available for purchase from School Locker at Loganholme. Alternatively, bottle green jumpers (with no logos) can be purchased from Best and Less. We appreciate your support in maintaining high standards for student presentation and school pride.
Supporting Year 6 Transition to High School
In Week 1, Mrs Kondys and I met with Mr Ward (Principal) and Ms Cowell (Dean of Year 7) from Browns Plains State High School, who have generously donated a Browns Plains SHS Student Diary to every Year 6 student at our school. This is a fantastic initiative to help students prepare for the expectations and routines of high school life.
Next week, I will be meeting with the Year 6 teacher to discuss how these diaries will be implemented and used in class to build student responsibility and organisation. A big thank you to Browns Plains State High School for their ongoing support of our students’ learning journey.
District Track and Field – Good Luck!
Best wishes to all our students who will be competing in the District Track and Field events next week. I know you will represent our school with great sportsmanship and effort.
A sincere thank you to Mr Jasch and Ms Jones for supporting the students, and to all the parents who are helping with transport and cheering on the sidelines – your involvement makes a big difference and is always appreciated!
Technology Club Success
Throughout Term 2, Ms Spencer has been running an engaging Technology Club where students had the opportunity to design and create their own digital games. These were entered into an ACER competition, and the creativity on display was absolutely amazing.
I had the pleasure of playing ‘Scrappy World’, a game designed entirely by Summer and Mackenzie in Year 5. I was incredibly impressed by the design, function, and imagination involved—and I had a lot of fun playing it! Well done, girls, and congratulations to all students involved for their fantastic work.

FROM THE HEAD OF DEPT - STUDENT SERVICES

Positive Acknowledgment System
As a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school we implement a Positive Acknowledgement System. The aim of the Acknowledgment System is to acknowledge students for the behaviours we expect. When staff positively acknowledge students for the behaviour expected, students earn tickets. Students may earn tickets for showing respect, being safe and learning. For every 20 tickets students earn, they receive a levelled certificate and begin working towards the next level. At certain levels students will also receive extra reinforcements as shown below.

Morning Muster
This year we began conducting mini parades, known as Morning Muster, to review the PBL and Reboot focuses as well as deliver important messages to the relevant year levels. We are now presenting awards at Muster in between parades. Morning Muster is held for the following year levels in their undercover areas at 9am:
Year 1 and Year 2 – Tuesday
Year 5 and Year 6 – Wednesday
Year 3 and Year 4 – Thursday
Break Times
Areas and activities at break times are reviewed throughout the year and we have worked on opening more spaces for students. This term a new playground has been constructed behind the hall for students in Year 3 – 6. This space is due to open next week. Teachers will be taking their classes out to visit the new playground and become familiar with the expectations for this space before play. A friendly reminder to our families that all play spaces are out of bounds before and after school.
Term 3 Play Spaces and Clubs

Attendance

Our attendance target at Browns Plains State School is 90%! We use Attendance Trackers for every student in our school so that each student’s attendance is visible to them. The trackers help students to understand how often they need to be at school to reach our school attendance target of 90%.

Congratulations to the listed classes for the Best Attendance and Most Improved Attendance for Term 2. These classes will enjoy a pizza party in Week 3 to celebrate.

Congratulations to the following classes for their attendance achievements in Week 1, especially Prep B for achieving our school target!

Please ensure that your children are at school every day and on time. Higher attendance is linked to higher learning outcomes and the development of positive relationships with staff and peers. For more information click the following link - https://education.qld.gov.au/initiatives-and-strategies/initiatives/every-day-counts/for-parents-and-community

Please ensure your children are at school every day if they are well. If your child is absent from school, provide a reason for their absence using one of the methods listed below.
- Phone: 07 3809 6222
- Reply to the text message sent by the school on the day of your child’s absence
- Return the Unexplained Absence letter with a reason and signature
Unexplained Absence letters are generated and distributed to students each fortnight. These letters provide dates of your child’s absences which have not already been explained. If you receive one please fill in the reason/s for your child's absence/s, sign and have your child return it to their class teacher. Please work with us to reduce the number of unexplained absences in 2025!

Lost Property
Our Lost Property bin is located outside the Wellbeing Hub. The Wellbeing Hub is located to the right of the administration building if you are walking down from the front gate. This bin is sorted through regularly and items with names on them are returned to students’ teachers to give back. Please ensure you have labelled all of your children’s belongings to help this process. Any nameless items left in the bin at the end of the term will be sorted, discarded of or donated to our second hand uniform stalls.

Second Hand Uniform Stall
Next week, in conjunction, with the parent/teacher interviews we will be holding a second hand uniform stall. We have a large number of jumpers but low quanities of other items . If you have any uniforms that your children have outgrown and you would like to donate please drop them off at the office.

FROM HEAD OF DEPT- CURRICULUM
World of Maths- Hands on workshops
As part of the learning this term, we have invited World of Maths (a travelling, interactive Maths Workshop) to visit our school.
World of Maths offers an ideal opportunity for students to see how mathematics is applied to everyday life situations and explore Maths in a hands-on environment.
The Student Council has kindly offered to subsidise the cost for families, and we are pleased to be able to offer this experience for a low cost of $5 per student.
Letters and invoices have been sent home this week.
NAIDOC celebrations
This week we celebrated the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC, which is held every year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Year 4, 5 and 6 First Nations students visited BPSHS to join in various cultural activities. Aunty Lorinda and the Nari mob taught our students dances, weaving and traditional painting.
At BPSS, students have been engaging in weaving, ochre painting, Traditional games and Yarning Circles. We concluded our celebrations with our NAIDOC assembly, with special guest Uncle Ted Williams who is a Yugambeh elder from Gugingin and Munanjali clans.
