FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome back to Term 4!
I hope you and your family enjoyed a restful break and are ready for the final term of the school year. Term 4 is always a busy and exciting time filled with learning, celebrations and milestones. Over the coming weeks, we will celebrate our Year 6 students as they prepare to transition to high school and warmly welcome our 2026 Prep families through transition days and orientation sessions. Every day of learning counts, and we appreciate your continued support in ensuring students are at school, on time and ready to learn each day.
World Teachers’ Day – Celebrating Our Amazing Staff
On Friday, 31st October, we will join schools across Queensland to celebrate World Teachers’ Day. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication, creativity and care our teachers bring to their classrooms each day. Their commitment to supporting every child to learn and succeed is what makes our school such a special place. Please take a moment to say a thank you to our incredible teaching team.
Respectful Communication
At Browns Plains State School, we value kindness, understanding and respect in all interactions. Whether speaking with staff, students or other families, we ask that all communication reflects these shared values. Inappropriate or aggressive language will not be tolerated.
If you have a concern about your child’s learning or wellbeing, please make a time to meet with your child’s teacher. Teachers are often busy before and after school preparing for lessons and supervising students, so booking an appointment allows them to give you their full attention and ensures that the conversation is productive and solution focused. If communication becomes disrespectful or aggressive, the conversation will be immediately stopped and referred to the principal for follow-up. Our goal is to maintain a safe, supportive and professional environment for all members of our school community.
If you have concerns about another student or family, please contact the school directly so we can address the issue appropriately. It is never suitable to approach another child or parent about a school matter. Together, we can model respectful communication and create a positive, caring community for everyone.
E-Scooters and E-Bikes – Staying Safe
As more students and families use e-scooters, e-bikes and e-skateboards to travel to and from school, it’s important that everyone is aware of the rules designed to keep riders, pedestrians and drivers safe.
Please remember:
- Only those aged 16 years and over can ride e-scooters and e-skateboards unsupervised.
- Helmets must be worn with the straps properly fastened (bicycle or motorcycle helmets).
- Bells must be fitted for devices with handlebars.
- No passengers – only one person is permitted per e-scooter or e-skateboard.
- The speed limit is 12 km/h on footpaths and shared paths.
- Serious fines may apply to riders, and to parents, if caught breaking the rules.
For more information, StreetSmarts Qld has excellent educational videos and practical tips on how to stay safe when using e-mobility devices. You can visit streetsmarts.initiatives.qld.gov.au for more details.
As we move through this final term, I look forward to sharing in the many celebrations and achievements that make our school community so vibrant and connected. Open and respectful communication helps us continue to make our school “A Better Place to Be.” By working together, listening to one another, and maintaining clear lines of communication, we can ensure the very best outcomes for our learners and families.

Welcome Back to Term 4!
Welcome back to school for Term 4! We’ve hit the ground running with lots of exciting learning opportunities already underway. Two of our Year 6 classes had the chance to visit Browns Plains State High School last week to experience lessons in a Science Lab. Students were incredibly excited and engaged in hands-on experiments that brought their learning to life. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and curiosity in action as they prepare for their next step into high school.
Year 6 Camp – Important Information
An email has been sent to parents of students attending the Year 6 Camp from Monday 27th October to Wednesday 29th October, returning to school by 3:00pm on the 29th.
Please take time to read this carefully and complete the attached medication forms if your child requires any medication while on camp.
Medication includes both routine and ‘as-needed’ medication such as creams, antihistamines, Panadol, cough medicine, etc.
One form is for ‘as-needed’ medication and requires additional written information from your practitioner.
Please familiarise yourself with the ‘Administer As-Needed Medication at School’ document attached to the email sent on 15th of October.
All medication required while on camp must be brought to the school office by an adult by Wednesday 22nd October. Medication must be in its original packaging with pharmacy labelling.
If you are unsure of any requirements, please don’t hesitate to contact the office prior to Wednesday 22nd October.
Year 6 Farewell and High School Enrolments
A reminder that our Year 6 Farewell Ceremony will be held on Thursday 11th December at 1:30pm. Invitations have already been sent home with students, and we look forward to celebrating this special milestone with our Year 6 families.
Now is also the time to enrol your Year 6 student at the high school they will attend in 2026. Students must be enrolled to participate in the High School Transition Day on Wednesday 4th December 2025 for those attending Browns Plains State High School.
Year 1 and Year 4 Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons for Year 1 and Year 4 students will take place on Monday 3rd November and Wednesday 5th November at Little Snappers Swim School.
Please ensure:
Permission notes are returned to your child’s teacher by Thursday 24th October.
You visit https://www.littlesnappers.com.au/school-swimming-permissions-slips by 24th October and provide further information to the swim school to assist with student swimming groups to maximise student outcomes.
Students will need:
Comb or brush
Towel
Togs and swim cap
Slip-on shoes (such as thongs) to wear to and from the pool
Swimming bag for wet items
Road Safety Reminder – Mayfair Drive Crossing
We kindly remind families that children should be using the supervised crossing to cross Mayfair Drive safely. Recently, some students have been seen waiting near the bus stop for parents or carers and crossing at this point to the other side of the road. This is very dangerous, as it can be difficult to see around buses before crossing.
Please support us in reminding children to use the designated supervised crossing at all times. We would hate to see any of our students injured by taking unsafe shortcuts when safe options are already in place.

Day for Daniel
On Friday the 31st October we will participate in Day for Daniel by wearing red and engaging in safety education. In the lead up to Day for Daniel the Logan School Based Police Officers delivered safety presentations on Friday 24th October.

Positive Acknowledgment System
As a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school we implement a Positive Acknowledgement System. The aim of the Acknowledgment System is to acknowledge students for the behaviours we expect. When staff positively acknowledge students for the behaviour expected, students earn tickets. Students may earn tickets for showing respect, being safe and learning. For every 20 tickets students earn, they receive a levelled certificate and begin working towards the next level. At certain levels students will also receive extra reinforcements as shown below.

Morning Muster
This year we began conducting mini parades, known as Morning Muster, to review the PBL and Reboot focuses as well as deliver important messages to the relevant year levels. We are now presenting awards at Muster in between parades. Morning Muster is held for the following year levels in their undercover areas at 9am:
Year 5 and Year 6 – Monday
Year 1 and Year 2 – Tuesday
Year 3 and Year 4 – Thursday
Prep - Friday
Break Times
Areas and activities at break times are reviewed throughout the year and we have worked on opening more spaces for students. A friendly reminder to our families that all play spaces are out of bounds before and after school.

Attendance

Our attendance target at Browns Plains State School is 90%! We use Attendance Trackers for every student in our school so that each student’s attendance is visible to them. The trackers help students to understand how often they need to be at school to reach our school attendance target of 90%.

Congratulations to the listed classes for the Best Attendance and Most Improved Attendance for Term 3.

- Phone: 07 3809 6222
- Reply to the text message sent by the school on the day of your child’s absence

If you receive one please fill in the reason/s for your child's absence/s, sign and have your child return it to their class teacher. Please work with us to reduce the number of unexplained absences in 2025

Lost Property

This bin is sorted through regularly and items with names on them are returned to students’ teachers to give back. Please ensure you have labelled all of your children’s belongings to help this process. Any nameless items left in the bin at the end of the term will be sorted, discarded of or donated to our second hand uniform stalls.

Triple P Seminars
Every family has tricky moments. Bedtime dramas, screen-time debates, morning rushes. To help make those moments easier and more enjoyable, the school is offering a series of free Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) sessions starting this week.
These sessions are relaxed, practical and designed to support the great parenting parents and carers are already doing. They’re not classes about “fixing” anyone; they simply share proven ideas to help children grow in confidence and to make family life calmer and less stressful.
Starting Week 2 of Term 4, there will be four sessions (offered over two time-slots for parent convivence). Come to one or all four, each offers strategies you can use right away.
The first session, “The Power of Positive Parenting,” looks at everyday approaches such as clear communication, planning ahead for challenging situations, and responding calmly to children’s emotions. These skills help children develop resilience and self-esteem while giving parents more confidence and less conflict at home.
Session details
• When: 15th October at 9am or 22nd October at 1.30pm
• Where: Browns Plains State School
• Cost: Free
• Who: All parents and carers are welcome
It’s an opportunity to pick up fresh strategies, connect with other parents and leave feeling encouraged, not judged. Interested, use QR code below to sign up today.
